Nice.

Oh, yeah, almost forgot: Nice.

Thanks again for the work, well done.

I'm sure many of you won't be slaving away at your desk tomorrow, but if you are one of the unlucky drones (like myself), this would be one hell of a way to make the day much more enjoyable.

I'll be one of the unlucky drones as well. After this one, I should be able to get through two more shows in The 1984 Project. In the home stretch now with 9 shows to go.

This season has taken a turn into the absurd. Should we prevail in Chapel Hell, it will be curious to see if FSU will have to invoke the "mercy rule" should we meet in the ACC Championship.

The Dookies have done themselves proud. A year ago I'd have given them no chance against UNC, but not now. However it turns out, I hope FSU doesn't end up being the paper tiger Notre Dame was last year.

I'm looking forward to Navy making it an even dozen over Army on the 14th. I'm also a little puzzled that Keenan McReynolds isn't getting more press. He's just a sophomore and if he keeps this pace up he should be at least an honorable mention in Heisman talks next year. He had 7 touchdowns and 240 yards rushing against SJSU in a triple overtime victory last week.

He is winning a bunch of weekly awards. Greatest Navy QB since Staubach? I know Ricky Dobbs was pretty good, but this kid is putting up crazy numbers.

In the last twelve months, Miami manhandled Duke on the hardwood and Duke returned the favor on the gridiron. I think this proves the Mayans were on to something.

Cheers to Mr. Dusborne, Mr. Seamons, etc, and the Matrix community.

I just wanted to say what goes through my mind these days when I think about Grateful Dead matrices. Discussions about matrixing are nothing new on this forum.

GD's crew and GD's audience taped the band live. They recorded hundreds and hundreds of shows. Some SBD tapes sound very good, and some don't. Some AUD tapes sound very good, and some don't.

Toss aside all the recordings that don't sound very good.

Now match the show dates of the very good SBDs with the very good AUDs.

Toss aside all the very good recordings of shows that aren't played very good.

What's left in the pile are very good recordings of very good shows. These shows need to matrixed perfectly. Most importantly, each tape needs to be transferred to digital as perfectly as can possibly be done.

The SBD and the AUD need to be synchronized perfectly. Assuming the SBD's recording speed is the most speed and pitch-accurate of the two, the AUD tape should be synched to the SBD using the "resample" mode.

After the above steps have been taken, now it's time to matrix.

I want to hear the matrix mix sound like what it sounded like at the FOB's sweet spot when the show was played. That was the best place to hear the best sound, period. That's why the PA's sound and mixing console was setup there. A lot of tapers - myself included - went to great lengths to put their microphones in that spot, just in front of the sound board.

July_1973_Grateful_Dead_sound.jpg

The problems are: a) the AUD is flawed in many ways, it's usually lacking some "crispyness", and sometimes certain instruments or vocals may be a bit weak in the PA mix; b) the SBD is not representative of the audience, it's representative of the SBD, and this is not the sound effect I'm seeking.

I'm not using synch-offsets for effects, nor am I adding any EQ to my tapes. Why? The way I see it, the band, their instruments, their sound gear, the sound crew, and the PA system already had the "right amount" of synch-offsets and EQ set. They were set the way they wanted them set. They set them this way because they wanted and intended for their music to sound and to be heard "that way". That's "the sound" that's going into the FOB-tapers' audience mics. That's my theory.

What I want to hear in a matrix mix is a perfect-sounding AUD that is coming from a perfect FOB source. This means the slightly-flawed, very-good-sounding AUD needs a bit of SBD mixed into it to achieve a perfect-sounding FOB mind-fuck.

Start by mixing up the AUD one-hundred percent. Then slowly start mixing in the SBD. Keep mixing in more SBD level until the AUD sounds perfect. That's what I'm looking to hear in a matrix mix. Acid!

As Black Friday approaches, Wal-Mart workers and activists are planning another round of protests and strikes at the nation’s largest employer on the biggest shopping day of the year.

With 1.4 million US employees, Walmart is the single largest private employer of Black workers in the country. The company's exploitatively low wages, unfair scheduling, wage theft and aggressive worker retaliation make Walmart a critical battleground in the fight for improved economic outcomes for Black families and communities nationwide.

Walmart reported a profit of $15.7 billion last year, yet Walmart workers must rely on food stamps, Medicaid and other anti-poverty programs to put food on the table and keep the lights on. Taxpayers subsidize this worker exploitation to the tune of $900,000 - $1,750,000 per store, and there are over 4,700 Walmart and Sam's Club stores in the US.

Protests are ramping up for Black Friday, with demonstrations expected at more than 1500 stores across the country: Stand with workers by sharing this image now.

re: "internet fight" - Will the TPP's IP Wars lead to a worldwide meltdown, because they'll take our GD music away?

BD - as a lawyer, will you defend me when I'm arrested - just because I downloaded some Dead tunes from The Archive and copied a few of them onto my iPod?

re: "holy crap - GD video of 6-19-76 @ Capitol Theatre" - It was amazing to see this video. I'd like to thank the individuals who ran cameras and taped this, and those who put this out there. Thanks to you, I watched and listened to some of this show.

Jerry is titillated when they play TLEO. It's a beautiful thing!

This show has music being arranged and played in a way that reinforces what I'm saying about Cowboys, GD, and their music. I thought Around And Around is a good example of what I was discussing. I love how Around And Around's arrangement is rockabilly-swing-similar to Lazy River's arrangement of Sittin' On Top Of The World.

Will I get arrested twice if I put the Capitol Theatre video on two old smartphones I have?

Read it a few weeks ago in Time magazine, so it must be true. Regarding those officially gainfully employed, we've recently set a new economic record!

1) 1% of this country's wage earners/reporters earn about 19.3% of the money

2) 10% of this country's wage earners/reporters earn approximately 48.2% of the money

Put 100 people in a room and divide $100 amongst them using these percentages.

1) ONE person "earns" $19.30 for showing up

2) NINE divide $28.90, which equally divided amounts to about $3.21 apiece

3) The REMAINING 90 divvy up the remaining $51.80, which equally divided amounts to almost $0.58 apiece

Your mileage may vary.

Black Friday here we come!

Déjà vu Cowboy-Freak-Bi-Polarism, right?

GD's Around And Around arrangement was played in June 1976. Lazy River's arrangement of Sittin' On Top Of The World was played in August 1976. I'm hearing very similar cowboy-rockabilly arrangements on these two songs.

There is no fucking way Lazy River knew what GD was playing in Capitol Theatre on June 19, 1976 because we weren't there. There is no fucking way GD knew what me and Lazy River were doing in summer of 1976. I know because I was there and the Grateful Dead weren't.

Yep, thats me, southern by the grace of job. I have taken a liking to grits, especially shrimp and grits, but you can give SDH my serving of sweet tea. Not sure he really needs all that caffeine and sugar though. I suspect he'll start breaking chairs in total silence then.

Thanks, they day was nice.
